Not really a bad trade for the Avs, as Avs fans probably over value Winnik.

I watched Connelly play several times in person in College, and he really impressed me. He is a bit of a smallish guy, but has a huge heart and is a clutch player. Could see him making the team next year on the wing.

McGinn seems to be a swap for Winnik in terms of players even up.

Dont really know who we got on that trade so its hard for me to comment on it.. I just hope we got something good in return considering we just gave up two roster players and roster players have been paid well so far.

Sgarbossa stat line:

OHL: 41 Goals, 43 Assists, 84 Points in 57 games.

Sharks fans are not happy about giving up what they got. Not to say any of the futures will pan out, but it does add some depth back into the Avs system up front.

Was McGinn, Connolly, and Sgarbossa.

Basically, a harder hitting version of Winnik who might not be as good of a skater + two mid-top end offensive prospects that are probably 2-3 years away from NHL time.

I really liked Connolly in College. He actually reminded me alot of Parise. That said, College does not translate sometimes to NHL skills.

Sgarbossa is putting up points in the OHL, but don't know much about him.

McGinn and Downie replace Gali and Winnik in regards of physical forwards. The hope will be that Connolly and/or Sgarbossa can progress into a top 2 line skill forward.

Without a doubt, as a result of the trades this week, the Avs are tougher to play against up front. They also added some scoring depth to the forwards in the minors, and if you look at the Monsters, forward scoring has SUUUCCKED and there is no one there.

Vancouver traded Hodgson (and Sulzer) to Buffalo for Kassian (and Gragnani).

Wow

Of note, the 7th going to SJ was the Ducks pick the Avs had previously acquired in the deal for Cumiskey.

The more I find out about the guys the Avs got in return, the happier I am with the deal.

The ONLY thing I worry about is the deal messing with the chemistry in the room for the playoff run. I think this makes the Avs better down the road and I like that they get tougher up front in addition to adding some scoring depth to the system, but Winnik and Gali have been a part of the room for a few years...and as much as you can get with prospects, both seem to have a decent chance to produce at the NHL level.

I am not worried about losing Gali on ice, as he has been a non-factor for most of the year. Winnik might be a bit of a loss on the PK, but McGinn should fit in nice on the 3rd line with Jones and Olver.

Downie + McGinn, on paper at least, appears to be at worst an even split with Winnik and Gali up front..and Downie seems to be working great on the 2nd line, while McGinn is a physical 3rd liner.

It also gives the Avs some good options on the lines.

Lando-O'Reilly-Downie seems set as a line.

McGinn-Duchene- Mueller could be a line, giving a physical player with Duchene and Mueller, puting Jones with Stastny and Hejduk.

Or, the Avs could go with the lineup that has been in effect the last while.

Lando-O'Reilly-Downie
Duchene-Stastny-Hejduk
Jones-Olver-Mueller
McLeod-McClemment-McGinn

Mueller might also play on the 4th line with McGinn on the 3rd, saving his major ice time for the PP and keeping him healthy.

Olver might find his way off the roster, but I doubt it, he has been great since he joined the club. Just a ton of options.

Personally, I would like to see

Lando-O'Reilly-Downie
Jones-Stastny-Hejduk
McGinn-Duchene-Mueller
McLeod-McClemment-Kobasew/Olver

...but again, I like what Jones-Olver-Winnik did over the last few games, and Jones-Olver-McGinn could have that same spunk.
